LaChina Robinson Named Special Assistant to Head Coach

ATLANTA -

ATLANTA - LaChina Robinson, Georgia Tech's director of operations for women's basketball during the past four seasons, was named special assistant to head coach MaChelle Joseph it was announced Friday.

"LaChina is taking on a new role within our women's basketball program that will help guide and assist our marketing, promotion and both internal and external growth of the program," Joseph said. "She has been an important member of our program for the past five years and has had a tremendous impact on our success on so many levels. This new position puts her in a position to grow professionally and will help Georgia Tech accomplish our goal of becoming a national power in women's basketball."

Robinson will serve as the team's liaison between the Georgia Tech marketing office, the Atlantic Coast Conference office and the A-T Fund. Her responsibilities will also include fundraising, overseeing the Georgia Tech Wreckin' Crew (women's basketball booster club), alumni relations, marketing and community outreach.

Prior to her appointment as director of operations, Robinson held the women's basketball administrative assistant position in 2003 and served as the administrative coordinator for the women's basketball team from 2003-04. She has also served as an analyst on WREK-FM for the Yellow Jackets road contests.

Prior to arriving at Tech, Robinson served as the championships intern for the ACC during the 2002-03 school year, where she assisted with all Olympic sport championships for the league alone with both the men's and women's basketball tournaments. She was also responsible for coordinating the Atlantic Coast Conference's 50th Anniversary Medallion ceremonies.

Robinson earned her bachelor's degree in sociology in 2002 from Wake Forest University, where she was a four-year starter for the Demon Deacon basketball team. A member of the 1999 ACC All-Freshman team, Robinson finished her career third all-time in blocked shots and 15th in rebounds while being named to the ACC Honor Roll on three occasions, including 2002, when she was named Academic All-ACC.

 

 

A native of Alexandria, Va., Robinson has currently presides over the WBCA's So You Want to be a Coach seminar sponsored by Nike, has been a site coordinator for local Adidas camps and was one of 25 chose to participate in the 2006-07 NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Females, which she graduated from in 2007. In addition, Robinson was selected to facilitate the 2007 NCAA Regional Leadership Conference in Dallas.

Robinson currently serves as a radio analyst for the WNBA's Atlanta Dream.
